“VINTAGE RESVERATROL 100% – With Every 750mg Capsule You Will Receive the Benefit of Resveratrol found in About 100 Glasses of French Red Wine”
I shit you not. And why FRENCH wine, you may ask. Well, because “French wine extract yields the most bio-available form of Resveratrol found in nature,” that’s why. I’m actually laughing as I write this, so forgive any unfortunate typos. We all know by now that resveratrol is a compound found in the skin of red grapes that extends the life span of several short-living species of animals (though most nutritional supplements of it are derived from Japanese knotweed, not grapes, but that’s not nearly as romantic). In obese mice and rat experiments, anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, blood-sugar-lowering and other beneficial cardiovascular effects of resveratrol have been reported, but most of these results have yet to be replicated in mammals, namely humans. But don’t let that stop you.
So here we go again with the paranoid rush to pharmacy counters to buy whatever may keep us from the grave just a little longer—no need to wait for actual proof that it works or anything as dramatic as that. But here’s the rub… Using cells that line human artery walls, researchers tested which wine compounds have the greatest affect on us, and their findings seem to point to tannins suppressing production of the peptide responsible for hardening arteries, not resveratrol. Let’s wait and see how long it takes the pill pushers to figure out that these tests are inconclusive, too. I’m suddenly wanting a martini.

Think I am screwed – I dont drink wine… bugger!
Good job dark chocolate is good for you… weeeeeeee!
I think even if they discovered dark chocolate was toxic that wouldn’t be enough to get me to stop eating it, Lindsey….gotta die of something, don’t we?!?
death by chocolate – what a way to go – hehe!
The irony is that the French are the biggest bunch of hypochondriacs(where’s spell check gone?)
For people who enjoy all these wonderful resveratrols and a great Mediterranean diet they have an enormous amount of pharmacys and presciption drugs. Most of the frogs rattle around the south of France moaning away…whilst living to 90+. I’d rather eat all the chocolate, smile a lot, drink whatever whenever and go out with a bang.
I’m with you 100% hamishwm!!
Unfortunatley it takes 1000 bottles of wine to gain the full benefits of resveratrol according to researchers at harvard. For more information check out this youtube video on the benefits of resveratrol: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXTPqSqWQ_s
